A Good Quality Boxwood Screw Stem Beech Plough or Plow Plane
By Cowell & Chapman of Newcastle

Nice shaped turned up toe on the skate.

The brass wingnut on
top is turned to adjust the depth stop underneath the plane. The screw in the
side is then tightened to hold the depth stop in the required position.

Here we see the metal foot of the depth stop and also the elaborate moulding
of the fence.
This moulding was not only for decoration but made the plane quite comfortable
to
hold wilst in use.
The plane was steadied by the left hand by gripping the side fence.
The handlle, as can be seen here, is off set so that the user is pushing
the plane from
dirctly behind the cutter. Note also that it is shaped out of the same
stock as the plane body
and not a seperate piece let in.
