Dovetailed Steel Construction with Rosewood Infill & Wedge. This plane was designated as a N0.4 in the Spiers Catalogue of around about 1930 at which time, it was only available to order.
It could be produced in 8 sizes, all 9" long, from ½” up to 1½” wide.

9” x ¾” Dovetailed Rebate plane by Stewart Spiers of Ayr. I do have the front
wedge for this plane but sadly, I'm lacking the other cutter. If anyone reading
this has a ¾” snecked cutter by Ward or Spiers or anyone else for that matter,
I'd be interested to hear from you. E-mail in the "About Me" page.

Spiers Ayr clearly stamped on the nose.

These were used to clean up rebates and housing joints in fine cabinet work.

The mouths are tight giving a very fine shaving.

Typically, a Ward iron has been used. Spiers used Ward irons often, so if you have
a Spiers with one, it is probably the original.

What appears to be a crack in the ridge of the nose, is actually a Joint.
See next image for construction notes.
