Dovetailed Steel Construction with Walnut
Infill & Wedge. This plane was designated as a N0.8 on page 14 of the
Spiers Catalogue of around about 1930.
It was produced in
4 sizes, all 8" long, from 1” up to 1½” wide.

8” x 1¼" Dovetailed Shoulder Rebate plane by Stewart Spiers of Ayr.

Large Spiers Ayr clearly stamped on the nose.

These were used to clean up the shoulders of Tennons and also rebate work.

The mouth is tight giving a fine shaving.

Although generally, these planes would have Rosewood infills and Wedges,
I
have been advised that during the wars, Rosewood was often difficult
to obtain and therefore Walnut and other hardwoods would be used
instead.
