The No.102 Non-adjustable Block Plane

The Stanley No.102 Block Plane is 5 ½” long, originally
supplied with a 1 ¼” wide cutter.
This plane has no blade adjustment mechanism, it having to be adjusted
by hand. It was a cheap tool intended for hobbyists, DIYers and for
light work.
The No.103 Adjustable Block Plane.
The Stanley
No.103 Block Plane is also 5 ½” long, originally supplied with a 1 ¼” wide cutter.
It is essentially the same plane as the No.102 but this one has an adjustment mechanism for the cutter.
There is
a lever under the blade and when pushed or pulled, it moves the cutter
up or down.
There is a series of fine slots cut into the back of the blade and these
seat themselves onto the ridges on the lever linkage on the plane body
as can be seen here allowing fine adjustment for depth of cut.
