The Gunmetal Lever Cap bears the words “Patent Appld For”
The Patent for The Plane-O’-Ayr was applied for
in 1909 and granted in 1910
and therefore the very earliest of the
dovetailed ones are those with the above mark.
From 1912, they became available in Malleable Iron.

Most early productions were marketed with Ward cutters and top irons.
This one has a replacements cutter by Robt. Sorby but the top iron is by
Ward.
